Ford Says Carbon Monoxide Exposure in Police Utility the Result of Improper Upfitting
Ford says their inspection of problem vehicles has revealed the problem is holes placed in the bottom of the vehicles during after-market upfitting of police equipment.

A total of 10 police department Ford Explorer SUVs with the Interceptor packages tested positive for carbon monoxide and were removed from the fleet
Ford to repair U.S. police vehicles after carbon monoxide concerns
Facing agencies removing Ford Explorers from service and an expanded federal probe into the problem, Ford finally decides to do the right thing and fix the problem. However, they appear to try to lay the blame on after-market modifications. All this while some agencies in Kansas have paid substantial money for repairs that have not fixed the problems.
